Behind the New Zealand Colorways

What a roller coaster ride this year has already been! I was going to start doing the big craft fair shows starting in February with the American Craft Made show in Baltimore, but that was postponed until May due to Covid.  It was a mixture of emotions when this call was made. I felt relieved without  a timeline crunch and sad because it has been over 2 years since I have done any of the big craft fairs. I miss getting to see you and have you try on my scarves and the newest addition of the capelets.    On the other hand it has given me the time to finally bring new colorways to my looms.   Here is...

The Path of the Capelets Dream pt 4- Size inclusivity

Let's talk about inclusive sizing.  I wanted my first true wearable garment to be accessible to a variety of body types!  Everyone deserves to be able to wear a work of art. This is why I offer the Capelet in two sizes, in its inaugural launch. The first for people who wear sizes S-L and  the second for sizes L-XL ( around US size 16-18).I also offer custom sizing for 2-3XL ( US 20-24). The distance between the arm holes and the length of the arm holes.  I plan to offer extended...

The Path of the Capelets Dream pt 3 Versatility

How many ways can you wear the capelet?   SO MANY WAYS! Quick change by draping one side over the shoulder for a bold look. A little tidbit...  the arm holes are not centered in the fabric so the Capelet can be worn in  2 different lengths !   One way to rock the capelet is to wear it "long", covering your tush, (because we all know that keeps us warmer), and the  short way gives more fabric at the top to cover up your head and wrap up in a scarf like manner!   Light & dark sides of the Silver Pheasanet capelets being shown off in the long & short lengths To push this even further I decided to make it...

The Path of the Capelets Dream pt 2-Eco-Fashion

Lets get into some behind the scenes info on the Capelets. Splendid Fairy Wren Capelets were woven in a small batch run using my 100% plant based exotic fiber blends. These capelets are made with sustainability in mind.  Each one is woven with a medium weight tencel paired with a uniqure blend of tencel with cotton/hemp , seacell, rose, hemp, or dandelion!    I hand paint and dye tencel yarn, made from eucalyptus trees,  which is one of the most environmentally friendly and sustainable yarns out there! They have a wonderful drape and are luxuriously soft. The pattern I designed for the Splendid Fairy Wren Capelet had to be something that had a fun play on shapes with curves in it....

The Path of the Capelets Dream pt 1

If you asked me at the beginning of the year if I was going to do my first photoshoot of my new collection, I would have said yes. If you told me I would do it in PARIS I would have laughed in your face. I was so wrong. The Splendid Fairy Wren Capeltes The wonderful woman next to me is my sister, Whitney and she is the reason I dreamed this big!  She asked me to come help her move to Paris for the next chapter in her impressive career, so I said yes of course.  So one thing led to another and I thought oh my goodness what if I took the Capelets to Paris, that would be...
